Server A:

In Server A, JIRA Version 7.3 and MS SQL Version 2012.

Now, we are planning to upgrade JIRA 7.3 to 8.5 and MS SQL 2012 to 2016.

Server B: (New Server).

  1. I install JIRA 7.3 in Server B and Connect MS Sql 2012, and Import the data from Server A to Server B.

  2. Take Backup DB from DB Server 2012 and Restore in 2016 with Same DB name.

  3. Delete DBConfig.xml file.

  4. Upgrade the JIRA 7.3 to 7.13.5.

  5. While JIRA starting Ask Database Setup, because I deleted the DBConfig file.

Here My doubt is:

Can i restore the DB from Server 2012 to 2016 or shall i create a new DB in 2016?

Here for JIRA 7.3 using MS SQL 2012. after upgrade we want change the MS SQL 2016.

Shall i use restore database or create new database in 2016?

Hi @cmbollareddy ,

I would proceed in two steps :

  • first upgrade Jira from 7.3 to 7.13, as 7.13 supports both SQL Server 2012 and 2016
  • then upgrade your database, and point your dbconfig.xml to the new server where you will have imported the Jira database

Let me know if this helps,
