Hi all,
I'm at my tipping point with JIRA and about to throw my table in the air.
Hopefully someone out there knows what I'm doing wrong.
1. I'm an Org Admin and a Project Admin
2. The project which I'm working on has the proper issue permission scheme.
3. I've logged in and out countless times
Yet, the DELETE option is NOWHERE to be seen.
Whether I click on the ellipsis (...) in the issue ticket from the backlog, Kanban board or Issues section: it does not show.
This is driving me crazy.
@atlassian: by the love of god, can we PLEASE have the DELETE issue has a default option for every user when creating the project? Update your system with a simple notification to Admins when anyone deletes an issue so they can reinstate it easily. How difficult is that? Nobody should have to lose an hour of their time figuring this out when this should be a VERY simple find.
A very frustrated user.
Hi @Quentin MD ,
Could you check if you are added to the project by going to (left sidebar)
Project Settings -> People If not, try adding yourself as an admin there and the delete option should appear in the ellipsis menu.
Additionally, I have a suggestion: deleting issues might not be a good idea, and allowing users to delete issues for every project is even riskier. Generally, it's better to use a status called "won't do" or "canceled."
Once an issue is deleted, it's lost forever in the dark depths of the cloud.
@Sarp Egemen THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I cannot fathom why, as an Org Admin and Project Admin, I wasn't added automatically to the Project. That is beyond my understanding.
But yes, this is what worked:

I wasn't there in the list in the 1st place.
Cheers,

No problem at all; I'm glad it worked.
It seems the notification scheme was configured to allow only Administrators, as a project role, to delete issues. This might have led you to believe you should already be able to delete issues.
However, since "administrator" as a group and as a project role are different things: you didn't have permission unless you added yourself as an administrator role to the project itself.
If it seems a bit ambiguous or confusing, that's completely normal, check the screenshot. The difference is that groups are organization-wide, while project roles are specific to Jira projects, their scope is limited to the project to which they are assigned.
All the best,

Hi @Quentin MD , just wanted to add on a bit more to @Sarp Egemen 's answer.
There may be some use-cases where even the org admins won't be added by default. For example, our company has several sensitive HR and Finance projects. We can add ourselves in an emergency or they can add us if they need help, but generally they run it on their own. Not everyone would run this way, but some certainly do.
One option you might want to look for in the settings is default project roles. You can specify the user(s) you wish to be added in a particular role upon project creation. For you, you could put yourself in the Administrators role by default on new projects. More about that here!
Hope that helps for those future projects!

Apologies for the late reply and thanks for the insights.
Context def helps get a better understanding of why this may not be a default setting.
And didn't know HR and FA teams were using JIRA for PM :P
