Dashboard Gadgets are missing.

Hello All,

We are using the JIRA 6.4 version jira in 2 instances and we are facing the gadgets missing issue in production instance. In Pre production instance we are getting the 35 system gadgets.

In production it shows only 12 gadgets and we try to add gadgets manually and it was working for only 20 mins after that those gadgets are again misssing in dashboard.

Is there any solution for this kind of behaviour in JIRA.

Hi Naveen,

Those versions of Jira are known to have some performance related limitations in regards to gadgets.  A number of improvements have been made to gadget performance since those versions.  One that comes to mind in https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-61264

It's hard to say for sure you are seeing this problem exactly, but since these gadgets appear in a pre-production instance, it makes more sense that this would be the case.  The production instance would be expected to have more of a load on it in regards to number of issues, projects, filters, customfields, users, etc. 

So I'm inclined to suggest upgrading Jira first to a 7.0.x version, update all your plugins on that version, and then you can upgrade to a more recent version that contains the improvements to gadgets, such as 7.2.6 or higher.

We could try to troubleshoot this further, such as trying to restart Jira to see if this makes a difference in the behavior here.  But also it might help us to narrow the focus here if we could see what kinds of log messages are created when you noticed this in the $JIRAHOME/log/atlassian-jira.log file.   I suspect it will likely confirm my suspicion that upgrading Jira is the preferred solution, but I welcome the logs so we can know for sure.

Hello Andy,

Pre production and production having the same number of issues and projectc and filters as well. One difference is production are using more than 1k people and pre producion is using only 5 people. 

I try to add Gadgets manuvally that time am getting the following error.

it was returning null in logs. But it was enabled in gadgets for next 15 minutes after that those gadgets also missing.

In currently we are not going to upgarde jira to 7.x versions.

Can you please help me on this.

Hi Naveen,

Thanks for this additional information.  From what you have told us, I'm confident now that you are seeing this documented bug JRASERVER-43077.  Ultimately, the long term solution should be to upgrade Jira to a version 7.1.0 or higher to avoid this problem.   However I understand that you are not looking to upgrade Jira at this time.  That bug ticket does have some steps you can take to work-around this

Workaround

• Perform the operation again when the site is not being heavily used. A link to "Load all gadgets" should appear in less than 60 seconds and will show the gadgets on later attempts to add gadgets to the same dashboard.
• Restarting JIRA may also help temporarily.

I understand these are not ideal solution, but just work-arounds.
