Dashboard Pie Chart not displaying for some custom fields

Suddenly some pie charts (JIRA cloud) on my dashboards are displaying:

"Unfortunately, one or more of your preferences are now unavailable. Please update your preferences, or remove gadget by clicking delete from the title bar above."

This occurs when the chosen statistic type is a custom field. The charts display fine when the statistic type is a default JIRA field.

The permissions for both dashboards and filters are all OK. Also this seems to have happened without warning - last week the charts displayed with no problems. i suspect this is an issue with Java?

Has anyone experienced this - and/or is there a solution?

It looks like this a a bug in JIRA Cloud which was raised a few days ago:

You can watch and vote on this issue to follow progress. Hopefully Atlassian will fix soon.
