Date guidance does not match date picker

I have a custom date field which formats to dd/MMM/yy. As you can see the text guidance below the field is wrong. How do I correct this please?

In fact, that guidance represents the custom field description. You may follow the below steps to change it. (Requires having JIRA Admin permissions)

1. While you are logged in, type gg or . (period), this will pop the special admin menu then type custom fields.
   
   
   
   
2. Search for your field, from the 3 dot icon on the right select edit. 
   
   
   
   3- change the description and update so it will reflect in your screens

Thanks but unfortunately that didn't work, as you can see the default text is still there.

That guidance could be coming from the field configuration for the affected project.

Would you please check the field configuration for the project which have this field. The steps are illustrated below.

1. From the project settings, open the field configuration associated to the field configuration shceme
   
   
   
   
   
2. Search for your field using CTRL+F and click edit
   
   
   
   
3. Make sure that the description is not empty. 
   
   
   
   
4. If the field description is not empty, modify it and delete the description for my first solution.

Unfortunately that does not work. I have deleted the text in your 1st solution (edit custom field) and added the text into your 2nd solution (edit field description).

But I still have double text.

I tried keeping both fields empty and get the single text "Use the d/MMM/yy date format".

In this case, you will find it in the system configuration. 

1. From the top right wheel, select system
   
   
   
   
2. then go to advanced settings
   
   
   
   
3. here is your guidance
   
   
   
   

Pro-Tip Changing the format will be applied to all projects/Date fields in your instance.
