Default an assignee to Reporter unless specified

Hi,

Is there an easy way to make this work?

In a Jira project, I would like all newly created issues to assign 'the reporter' as the assignee, but only if the assignee is not already choosen.

Right now, I have a workflow post function that set the assignee as 'the reporter'. So of course if someone specifies an assignee while creating a ticket, it is overwritten to 'the reporter' at creation.

Hi Darla,

One method that may help comes from the Communities post How to assign an issue to the current user on create transition? It uses ScriptRunner and there is an example script in the Communities post by Jamie Echlin from Adaptavist.
