Default component for user (or user group)

Doreen Müller April 20, 2020

Is it possible to set a default component of a project for a specified user (oder user group, but user would be enough for our scenario)?

Most of the time, I have to write issues for a particular component so I want to choose this one automatically. Probably, this could be done with post functions - but then I need to set it up for multiple users. Maybe there is an easier way to do it.

Hi Doreen,

You can set the default user for a component by clicking on the Components link on the left hand menu while on the project. Then simply click on the Component to edit it and add a Default Assignee.

If you want to assign a default component whenever an issue is created on that project, you will need to do that through some type of automation - Automation For Jira, JMWE or ScriptRunner would all be able to do the job.

Thanks for your reply. I already use the default assignee (main reason why to use components for us), but I also wanted to set the component for my issues. I see that it is only possible with some kind of automation.

Yes, but Automation For Jira is free and included in your Jira Cloud subscription.  :-)
