Did you mean:

Default text isn't appearing on the ticket.

michaelreiff October 17, 2024

I have created a couple of text-based custom fields and set a default value for the field. When I open a ticket, the default text isn't appearing.  Is there a step I'm missing? I'm on Jira Cloud standard if that makes a difference.

Hi @michaelreiff  Check the below configurations:

  • Field Configuration: Ensure that the custom field is properly configured and associated with the correct screen used for creating issues. If it’s not on the screen, the default value won’t show.

  • Default Value Settings: Verify that you set the default value correctly in the field configuration. Sometimes, it might be necessary to double-check the syntax or any conditions tied to the field.

  • Field Context: Check if the field context restricts the custom field to specific projects or issue types. If it’s too restrictive, the default value might not apply.

If still not working then raise a ticket with atlassian or as a workaround you can create an automation rule to set the field values.
