Dependencies on Roadmap (Beta)

Andrew.Mulford August 27, 2020

Hi,

Currently when linking two epics together using the new Roadmap (Beta) in classic the link is always created with Block & is Block by.

Due to another integration we have with Aha! we need to use dependency link "Depends on" & "Is a dependency of"

I have tried following these instructions but even after removing block and adding is dependent it is still showing blocked on the Roadmap (Beta): https://confluence.atlassian.com/advancedroadmapsserver/configuring-issue-dependencies-802170496.html

Are the above settings simple for Advanced Roadmaps and not roadmap Beta? If so can I change for Roadmap Beta ?

If so has anyone else run into the same issue and found a solution?

Thanks,

Hi,

I have been investigating Roadmaps and it seems they behave very differently between Project Roadmaps (Next-gen and Classic[Beta]) and Advanced Roadmaps. To get Advanced Roadmaps you need to upgrade to Jira Software Premium as you probably know, and as you both noted AR is an add-on, so I guess it makes sense that they work differently.

I came across the issue @Andrew.Mulford and as far as I can tell you can only specify which issue link types control dependencies in Advanced Roadmaps. If you have premium and can see the 'Plans' tab then when you go to Settings (cog top right) > Apps you'll see Advanced Roadmaps Options with one for Dependencies.

There you can select the issue link types that will be treated as dependencies in plans.

So I think the answer to your question is - only in Advanced Roadmaps. Sorry if that's a pain, there's a 56 day free trial of Premium if that's any help, I'm trying it out now and I do like AR so far.

Thanks Stuart. We do have premium so I will have play with the Advanced Roadmaps.

Thanks Again

Andrew

Hi @Andrew.Mulford I tried to add the link two Epics together using the Roadmap (Beta) in Classic project and I was also find all the Issue link types needed to link epics together.

It currently defaults to "is blocked by". Can you check if you see this list of link types in the issue detail view?

Also the link you shared i.e. Advanced Roadmaps (formerly portfolio for Jira) is an add-on and Roadmaps for next-gen/ classic project is a built-in feature.

@Sramanth Pandeti , It seems my reply has disappeared.

Yes I realised Advanced Roadmaps is a different paid for add-on.

The linked issue detailed screen does show the Linked issue options. But even when manually selecting a different link type it doesn't reflect in the roadmap. Is it possible to change the default on the beta roadmap?

Hi @Andrew.Mulford It looks like "Blocks" and "Is blocked by" are the only two options that can be used on the Epic roadmap as mentioned in this documentation below:
