Difference between updated and updatedDate?

Simple question, whats the difference between the updated and updatedDate fields? I want to run a search which returns everything that has changed in the last 24 hour period so that we can send reports of any of our "Release" tickets.

Well, the answer is also simple, both are poiting to same. 

'Updated' is the fieldname and 'UpdatedDate' is the alias to the field.

why do we need such alias? its just cuasing unnecesarry thinking and searching
