Different User access on 2 boards in 1 project

Chris February 23, 2020

I want to set up a user to create and edit support issuetypes in a kanban board and only have browse Only permissions in the scrum board where the work is done in the same project.

You can’t do that and it really doesn’t make sense. Boards are just graphical views of issues, more or less. If a person can create and transition issues and the filters on the boards display these issues then any drag/drop action in one board will update the other board.

Maybe I should have explained the use case in more detail...

I have a support team and a development team. Support uses Kanban board to create “Support Issue” issuetype (create/edit permissions set for the group).

Development users use Scrum board for stories in sprints. “Support Issue” shows up in backlog when created. The developers schedule the “Support Issue” to be included in the current sprint or next sprints. The devs transition the “Support Issue” (having different workflow to other issuetypes) through the statuses but cannot resolve.

Support can view the Scrum board but cannot change anything except “Support Issues - its used as detail view In the process of being resolved by the dev team.

The Kanban board is simplified view of Support Issues showing only 4 columns ( corresponding to status categories + “Check resolution with user” as an overview on “Support Issues” and cycle times and to resolve after user accepted the fix.

I’m trying to use security levels but still need the support team to view all issue types in Scum but only create/edit “Support Issues”... [who said administrating Jira projects for multiple product dev teams are easy ;-)
