Hi,
Just a quick question please about the Jira Server to Cloud Migration.
When generating the Migration within Jira Server, there are two options - Test Migration and Production Migration.
What is the actual difference between the two? I can't find anything that gives a definitive list of differences.
Thanks in advance,
Mike.
Hello @Mike Shaw
Data Migration wise there is no difference. All the server data will be migrated in both the instance.
Test migration acts as the Staging instance ,where you can test and play around before the final migration. It can be used for Testing and Training as well before final Production Migration.
Once all the Testing, Fixing, Training, UAT done in Test, you can plan for the Production Migration which is the final migration.
Please accept the ans if this helps and feel free to ask in case of any other specific question regarding this.
Thanks
Thankyou @Asha Goyal ,
On other quick question - When I run a Test Migration, none of the Users are automatically invited which is good! Do you know if the same is true for the Production Migration? Do I need to "Resend Invite" or are they automatically invited once the Production Migration has completed?
Thanks,
Mike.

Hello @Mike Shaw
Notification is usually on in Production Server. However, If in case there is any specific issue there is always the option to Resend Invite.

Hi @Asha Goyal ,
We are currently in the test migration phase and we are working on fixes to some of the workflow definition/setup.
When we do the Production migration, it sounds like we will lose all of those changes, yes?
By your description it sounds like the test and production phases are two separate areas...am I understanding that correctly?
Thanks!

Hello @Jerry Moseley
It depends on the way you are chosing the site.
Will your url be same as test for production? If yes, for final production migration you need to wipe off all the data which in turn loose all the changes you did.
If your testing instance is different then production url, both will be different instance and will not impact each other.
Let me know if you have any further question regarding this.
Thanks

Hi @Asha Goyal ,
We have 1 url for both testing and production migrations.
Since we are making changes/fixes to workflow in the test migration we did, we are looking to keep those changes when we do our production migration. Is there any way to make that happen?
Or do subsequent migrations delete all the prior data that we are working on?
Thanks for your help!

Hello @Jerry Moseley
That depends on how you want to proceed.
You can create one more testing instance as trial (standard). Take a current cloud backup and prepare that new trial instance with this backup. This way you can retain all the changes you did in the current one.
Hope it should help.
Thanks
