Different custom fields on the same board

Kim Green March 1, 2022

Is it possible to have different custom fields on the same board?

As an example, say there are 2 types of card on a board, Job 1 which requires 1 review or Job 2 which requires 2 reviews.

Is it possible to set a custom field for card type Job 1 that shows one review date and a tick box for that review, and then for card type Job 2, 2 review dates and 2 tick boxes ?

I've tried to set up a custom field for Job 2, with 2 review dates, but it's applied it to all cards on the board, including Job 1 cards. I also had a look at trying to create a rule where if a card has the label Job 1 to include certain custom fields, but I couldn't figure how to do it.

I'm not an expert though so if someone who is could help me that would be wonderful!

Hi Kim,

The quick answer is Yes - you can multiple custom fields on the same board. And you can have a workflow that behaves differently based on the values of the custom fields using conditions on the transitiions in the workflow.

So, if you want to give that a try and let us know where you have a problem, then we can jump in to help.

Thanks for your response,

It seems like when a custom field is set up it applies to every card on the board. I've tried setting up a rule that if Job 1 is selected then some of the custom fields should be removed, but it doesn't have that as an option.

Ah, I understand better now. No, there is not a way to hide fields based on values of other fields. You could do that by using different issue types for the project. Then you could set the context of the custom fields to be based on Issue Types.

Hi John,

That sounds like it might work, how would I set issue types on Trello please?

I don't believe that can be done with Trello. This question was submitted under Jira.
