Discovery Project - my viewers are showing as Creators - how do I fix this?

I've added a good amount of viewers to the discovery project, but they can't see it until I update their access to be able to access Jira Software. But that switches them over to creator when I only want them to view and be a contributor.  Only 3 people for my project will be able to edit or change anything. Everyone else will need to go through those three people for anything other than viewing.
