Does JIRA software require HTTPS to connect to BitBucket?

I am looking to upgrade JIRA and want to know how I go about adding an application link to the new JIRA instance to Bitbucket. I am reading that I will require OAUTH 2 to do this which in turn requires HTTPS connection for JIRA. There does not seem to be a straightforward method to getting this done.

Any advice or guides to do this? 

Can BitBucket be connected to JIRA without the need of HTTPS?
