Hi, does this velocity chart look normal? I am confused about how to read and analyze it. Please help. Thank you!
Hi @Nicodemus,
Apart from the fact that I don't see the sprint names at the bottom of the chart and assuming that this is just due to the way the screenshot was taken, here's what I see:
If your team delivers more story points than there were at the start of the sprint, story points are added during the sprint (fact). That can happen when the team adds additional stories to the sprint after the sprint started of if they update estimates of issues in the sprint after the sprint start date. To find out what happened, look at the sprint report and/or the burndown chart for these sprints to learn more.
Hope this helps!
Hi @Nicodemus
Adding to Walter's answer:
Please look here to learn more about that report: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/view-and-understand-the-velocity-chart/
And looking at the image you posted, I wonder why there are hundreds of story points shown in each sprint. Different teams size work differently, yet with so many story points I wonder if that is a symptom of other challenges. Please discuss with your team and coach why this occurs.
Kind regards,
Bill
