Don't backup anything when upgrading JIRA

Sam Speight February 12, 2018

Ok, so I recently did an upgrade of JIRA. (It subsequently failed but that's another story)

When I run the installer, there is a tickbox not to backup the home directory or something. I ticked this, because I did a separate SQL backup and snapshot of the windows VM our instance is running on. So I have a fully backed up system already.... However, it still backed up a HEAP of stuff. It took ages, like a couple of hours, which was a massive waste of time. Is there a method to skip this step or what files do I need to move out of what directories to minimise the time it takes?

Next time I attempt this and future upgrades I don't want to have to wait for this redundant step.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks

Hi @Sam Speight

The installer will always make a backup of the JIRA_INSTALLATION directory, and you are right, this can take a long time depending on the size of the logs directory.

Next time make sure you delete the logs located in the <JIRA_INSTALL_PATH>/logs directory.

Cheers

Thanks Carlos, total fail. Don't know why I didn't see that folder before. That's exactly what I was after.
