Hello Everyone,
I would like to ask you about dots which are referring to how many days one issue is in the specific status. I would like to know if I can somehow double check what is that exact day when issue started to be in particular status. When I open Epic description I see that dots are for sure not referring to Creation date neither to Updated date.
Thank you very much.
Renata
Hello @andrejkovicovar
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
If you are referring to the dots on card when you are viewing the cards on a board, those are a visualization of how many days the card has been in the column.
It is not a one-for-one representation; it is not one dot for each day. If you hover over the dots you will get a pop-up that says how many days the issue has been in that column.
Since statuses are mapped to columns you would need to look at the date that the issue transitioned to the status mapped to that column to make a comparison of the dots to actual duration.
Where I can find date that the issue transitioned
You would have to look through the History information for the issue to find the record of the status change.

For better flexibility in reporting, if you would be interested in a mktplace app, you may want to try out our add-on.
The app has more than 20+ reports to meet a variety of use cases. For your specific requirement, status transition details report shows the date when a specific moved to a particular status and by whom

as you can see from the previous responses, time-in-status measurements is an area where many users rely on solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, in particular for more advanced use cases.
If I may offer another recommendation, I think you might like the app that my team and I are working on: JXL for Jira.
JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a long list of so-called history columns that aren't natively available, including the time in [status], time between [status] and [status], and many, many more.
This is how it looks in action:
As you can see above, you can easily sort and filter by your history columns, and also use them across JXL's advanced features, such as support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting. Of course, you can also export your data to Excel or CSV in just two clicks.
Any questions just let me know,
Best,
Hannes

Hi @andrejkovicovar 👋
Understanding the timeline of an issue in Jira can be tricky, especially when relying on the visual dots representing days in status. To double-check the exact date an issue transitioned into a specific status, the built-in Jira functionality might not always provide a clear answer.
However, if you're looking for a more precise and detailed view of when an issue entered and stayed in a particular status, the Time in Status.
With Time in Status, you can:
For this simply:
For more in-depth data analysis, you can create reports as pivots. For example, you can look at the percentage of time spent in different statuses.
Dashboards gadgets feature will keep your finger on the pulse and track team productivity in real-time.
And also you can create a custom field to see Time in Status directly on the board and ticket.
Add-on developed by my team.
I hope you find this helpful 🚀

Hello @andrejkovicovar ,
Welcome to the Community!
The dots on cards are a visualization of how many days the card has been in the column. Hovering over the dots will provide you with the exact number of days the issue has spent in that column(status). However, this method involves manual effort and isn’t ideal for reporting purposes.
For a more advanced and automated solution, I’d like to introduce Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira which is developed by my team at OBSS. It offers:
These reports deliver precise insights into your workflows without the need for manual tracking or calculations. Since I see you’re currently on Jira Cloud's Free plan, I’d like to point out that Timepiece is also free for you to use under this plan.
If you'd like to explore this solution further, feel free to check out Timepiece on the Atlassian Marketplace or schedule a demo with us for a walkthrough of the app's features.
Hope it helps!

Dear Trudy,
thank you very much for your answer. It is very useful.
One more question, please : Where I can find date that the issue transitioned to the status mapped to the colum? I am reffering to this your sentence: "Since statuses are mapped to columns you would need to look at the date that the issue transitioned to the status mapped to that column"
Thank you very much.
