Download data from JIRA Core Cloud

We use Tableau for data analysis. Is it possible go download the data from a JIRA Core Cloud instance?

If so, what is the mechanism for doing that? Is it possible for Tableau to connect directly to the database of a JIRA Core Cloud instance?

Thanks for the prompt response! I've heard about REST but know nothing about it. Is there JIRA documentation about this that I can read?

No, you get no access to the database. You have to use the REST interface to get data.
