I changed the name of a custom field. Now all automations that use this field error saying the original field was deleted. Changing the name back to the original still doesn't work. Does anyone know how Jira makes this simple change? Meaning does it do a Delete of the original field name then Add the new field name? Is there a way to get around this without having to update every automation that uses it?
Hello @Lori Milam
Was this a custom field defined in a Team Managed project, or defined for use in Company Managed projects?
What type of rule step is generating the error; a trigger, an action, a condition, ...?
Can you show us the details of that step?
Hi @Trudy Claspill thanks for responding. My manager suggested I enter a support ticket also and they already got back to me. Yes it is a custom field for a Company Managed project. The conditional step was creating another issue within the same project and to copy the field in question to the new issue. This is where it errored.
Support pointed me to a feature request ticket to store the custom field ID instead of the Name. Which, IMO, it should have already been doing. Also, there has to be more to it than just storing the name because when I set it back to the original name the automation still didn't work. Since I don't know how the automation steps are stored I can't say for sure. But basically support told me all the automations have to be updated manually to use the updated field.

This is interesting.
If your amenable, I'd like to explore this more.
Can you share an image of the step where you are copying the value, showing the details of the copying for that field?
