We support this in Notification Assistant for Jira where you can configure a Notification from a Post Function

@RG, sure thing. Let me see if I can help you. You'll need to be a Jira administrator to perform the steps outlined below:

  1. Create a new Jira custom event. To do this, you'll need to navigate to Administration > System > Events > Add a new Event (generic template).
  2. Navigate to the workflow, click on the transition that you want to send the custom notification, and then click on Post Functions.
  3. The last post function should be Fire a Generic Event. You'll need to edit this post function and change the event to the custom one you just created.
  4. Publish the workflow with the changes you've made.
  5. Navigate to the notification scheme for your project, and edit the notifications. At the bottom on the notification scheme, you should see the custom event you created. Add the user picker custom field to get notified when that event is fired.

If you're able to do those steps, you should have the notifications set up just like you want!
