Emails to jira keep bouncing

Abigail Wescott September 14, 2018

I am trying to set up a setting in my project so I can email and an issue will be created. I went to the site administration and create a new mail handler with the default server. Every time I email I get a response that it has bounced. New issues are not getting created.

Are they getting bounced by the mail server or by Jira? What's in your logs?

It says the message could not be delivered

Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 5.1.1 Mailbox does not exist
Status: 5.1.1

This means that the endpoint that you're sending or reading from does not exist..

What email should I use? I need to something to send too which creates the ticket.

I'm really not sure what you're trying to achieve but this is what you should do:

  1. Create an email account/box to accept emails
  2. Set Jira to read that email box
    1. (https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver0711/configuring-jira-applications-to-receive-email-from-a-pop-or-imap-mail-server-955168570.html)
