Epic link shows different name within a Jira item tagged to the epic

Story D is tagged to epic B

However, within story D, the epic link shows the name of the epic ( (Assume story A) )from which B was cloned from.

I tried re indexing at project and instance level nothing worked till now. Please suggest

Hello @Sonali Gosewade

I feel you are confused between the "epic link" field, the actual epic's summary and the "epic name" field. Taking the same example as yours,

Story D is tagged to epic B

However, within story D, the epic link shows the name of the epic ( (Assume story A) )from which B was cloned from. --> Here, story D's "epic link" field displays a value which will be the same value as that of epic B's "epic name" field instead of epic B's summary. This is because, Jira requires an additional "epic name" field out-of-the box for epic type issues alone, along with the default summary. This value will be displayed in the "epic link" field for all child issues under the epic. This scenario will not apply to other issue linking like parent link and feature link.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

No The problem when the user linked the stories to epic. In the epic link feild is showing name of value from epic A, however when clicked on the epic link it goes to epic B. I am thinking that since epic B is cloned from epic A it taken its name ...maybe user at first copied it and then changed it.

It should not show epic A it should epic B as it is linked to epic B

Looks like I have the same symptom: if the epic has been cloned -- not created from scratch -- then at least some of its attributes cannot be changed and refer to the original epic. This can be seen in 'epic link' when creating new issues and on kanban boards as well.

You probably confused linking with epick link. Links are not epic links, if you want to change Story D Epic link just change it. One story can be linked only to one epic.
