Epic "mark as done" sets Epic-Status to "To Do"

We are using Jira in Germany and use german settings in the system and in profiles. The only "addon" we use is Plans/Portfolio.

When working with Epics there is a strange occurence:

Using "mark as done" on an epic in the backlog sets the epic-status for whatever reason to "To Do". Which we used as a german translation for "selected for development" long ago)

When adding the epic-status field to a screen and selecting the status in the dropdown, I also have to select "To Do" to mark it as done as well. In that dropdown field I have several status options to choose - they are all German. The "To Do" Option is the last one in that dropdown.

I asume it uses a (for me) unknown workflow and/or translation. But I was unable to find out which after searching for several hours. I was not able to reproduce this in our testing environment either. Or Maybe there is a problem with the translation (we use jira in german and translated our statuses and I dont know if that reflects on the Epic-Statuses)

Can someone help me in fixing this? Can I (re)translate that somewhere? When changing the systems (and my profile) language to another one -for example if I use Jira completely in english - And even when creating a complete new Project - it still uses the german (and wrong) Epic-Statuses.

We use Jira Data Center 8.20.8

Thank you for helping me!

Hello @Sugandha Singh , thank you for the prompt reply.

  • Normally we use several Boards across multiple Projects but for each project there is a board with a rightmost column "fertig (done)" that sets the resolution as well. But as I anderstand Jira, that is for all Types except EPIC, which has an own epic-status that is to be set via the "mark as done" action? Furthermore the Problem does not exist in one Project but instance-wide.
