Epic status according to child issues

Ezgi December 4, 2023

I want to my Epics' statuses to be in progress if one or more child issues are in progress.

I have looked other community entries, however although automation gets success, Epic's status does not change

Hi @Ezgi ,

Your automation rule should update the Epic status as soon as one of its child issues moves to in progress. So, step by step:

  • trigger: issue transitioned to In Progress
  • value field condition: issue type is one of (list your issue types triggering the rule)
  • related issues condition: parent exists (i.e. there is an epic)
  • branch: for parent
  • condition: if status does not equal in progress
  • then: transition issue (i.e. the epic) to in progress

Hope this helps!

Hi @Ezgi

This should work with an automation rule.

Can you share the details of your rule so we can see where it goes wrong?
