Depends what board you are using but in general the issues contained in the epic may not show based on resolution, sprint, or status depending on if you're using a kanban board or scrum board. The behavior of the epic panel is different for Scrum and Kanban boards.
I'm using a kanban board. When you say, may not show based on resolution or status, why is that the case? What determines showing all issues under the epic on the kanban board? Thanks.

The backlog view of kanban boards only show issues in the backlog and issues in the first column of the board. This is by design.
Not defending it, just sharing why you're not seeing them. If you have issues in progress or done, they wont be displayed in the backlog view.
