Errors while trying to import Jira Server export to Jira Cloud

Deleted user July 11, 2018

Hi there,

We are trying to migrate from Jira Server to Jira Software Cloud. We are running the version v7.5.2 and following this documentation https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/migrating-from-jira-server-to-jira-cloud-779160826.html

We are encoutering issues when we want to import our backup (115Mb zip file). The zip backup is composed of two files :

  • entities.xml : 1G
  • activeobjects.xml : 147M

I don't know if the size is the problem here but when trying to import the same file multiple times we got different errors :

Error parsing export file. Your export file is invalid. This may be due to a CDATA bug in older versions of Jira (http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-4980). Exception is org.xml.sax.SAXParseException; lineNumber: 4594962; columnNumber: 340; The value of attribute "value" associated with an element type "EntityProperty" must not contain the '<' character.

Cannot complete the import because one of the import files contains the following duplicate workflows: 'backup team pink simplified kanban workflow'. Search the Atlassian Administrator Knowledge Base for instructions on how to fix this, or contact Atlassian Support for help.

I tried a 4th time but the import was hanging at 80%.

Is there a limit regarding the size of the Jira export ?

Also, our attachments directory is pretty large : 25G. I tried to make a compressed archive but it is also large : 15G. Is there a limit for this ?

Also, is there a way to map our previous users to the new ones on Jira Cloud based on emails ?

Thanks a lot !

Saâd

Somewhere in your source instance there will be 2 or more workflows with that name (but possibly different capitalisation). Some of them may be inactive in which case you should go to workflows and click the "Inactive" at the bottom. Delete or rename them until there are no 2 with the same name (ignoring capitalisation)

Saad,

JIRA Should be at the latest version prior to the upload. According to Atlassian documentation, you can only migrate from the latest to the cloud.

Thanks,

Kian
