Excel extract data from JIRA Align

Good day

The desired outcome is to be able to automatically extract epics and stories ( in future it may include other data types)  from JIRA Align into excel and to be able to refresh the data from Excel / Power BI. This could be via csv or odata. I am aware of the manual way of extracting data from JIRA Align.

I have read up on the API (Getting started with the REST API 2.0 – Jira Align) but I do not know the actual steps to connect to the API.
