Exelate issues sync between instances problem

I am new to using Exelate and have questions regarding using exelate to sync 2 jira instances on jira software projects.  My question is, when sync issue, do the screen layout have to be the same default "Field tab" for the sync to work? And if both sides have to have the same issue layout for the sync to work?

To put in perspective,  one instance uses tabs to configure screen layout and not using the "field tab" at all, while the other instance uses out of the box by putting everything in the default "field tab"- no issue layout use at all. The syncing is not working,  team thinks the cause due to the screen layout differences that fields are not in the default "field tab". Any thought that any one can share on this?  Any comments is appreciated
