Expanding the number of characters which appear in a JIRA checkbox description field

Hi,

We want to use checkboxes in JIRA to store some pretty long descriptions, but are running into a maximum character length for the field description. Can

a) this be customized or unlocked so we can expand it, or

b) is this something which can be purchased?

In both cases, no.  You could hack the templates that render the descriptions, and the templates for editing them, but you may also need to change the database columns that they are stored in.  Quite difficult to do safely and a pain in the neck on upgrade.

You might be able to inject javascript to replace the text though.
