Export Excel data to Jira, to update issue fields in Jira, without overriding existing data in Jira

Stuart Wilde September 16, 2021

Can it be done?

Context:  I have a SharePoint List with data that I can export to excel.  When exported, the data contains the same serial numbers of Jira Issues so my excel export and Jira can be mapped in that sense.  The question is, can I then import my excel data, to Jira, to be able to update fields in Jira, without overriding the data in Jira?

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You can indeed import updates from lists of issues with changes.  As you've already said, the list needs to contain the Jira issue key to be updated, but it will only update the fields you choose to change.

You'll need to do it with CSV, but that's not hard - excel and any other spreadsheet you might care to use all have "export to" or "save as" CSV functions.

See https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/import-data-from-a-csv-file/

By the way, I would remove your email address from your post - we're not support, so it's very unlikely any of us would contact you on it, and we do know some spam lists scrape the Community for addresses sometimes.

I dont see "issue key" but I do see "issue id". This is not the same correct? I am unable to modify existing issues in jira from excel.
