Hello -

I'm importing issues from another jira instance using the External System Import tool via CSV.

Will importing these issues to a project that already has 1,000s of issues erase those issues and leave only my issues that i've imported? I do not want to erase what's already existing in the project. Just add to it.

Jason,

Importing using a CSV import will not erase what you have in your JIRA system.  See Importing data from CSV on how to do this.

But to answer your question, no your current issues will still be there.  Be cautious though, as if you're identifying a issue ID# in the import and you already have the same issue in the project you're importing to, it will update it with that new information.

Hope this helps.
