Hi, is there a way to automatically populate an external URL to a different system when entering data into a JIRA field?

My guess that what you need is Webhooks. Read how to setup and use it here: https://developer.atlassian.com/jiradev/jira-apis/webhooks

Hi Alex, so we use ServiceNow, and we just created a field to enter a JIRA ticket number. When you populate that field, it generates a link to the JIRA ticket which directly opens the ticket in JIRA. I'm looking to do the same from the JIRA to link to the ServiceNow ticket. Thanks!

Could you please explain what do you mean? You need to have custom field with the source from external URL? - there is a plugin for that.
