Description:
To encourage clarity and brevity in communication, we propose introducing a configurable word limit for Jira comments.
Rationale:
Jira comments are meant to support concise updates, quick clarifications, or context for issue tracking. However, they are sometimes misused as substitutes for documentation or Confluence pages, resulting in overly long comments that are difficult to read and comprehend quickly. Enforcing a reasonable word limit will
a) Encourage more focused and readable updates.
b) Help team members quickly grasp the key points.
c) Promote better use of Confluence or documentation tools for detailed information
Suggested Enhancement:
a) Introduce a configurable word limit for comments (e.g., 250–500 words)
b) Provide a warning or block comments exceeding the limit
c) Optionally allow overrides for specific roles or ticket types if needed
Thank you for considering this enhancement.
