Field is blank using Open in Excel, but populated on export

We have a custom field called "Size (checkboxes)" - S, M, L, XL - which I have included in a filter with several other fields.  When I export that filter to CSV, HTML or Excel, it is populated as expected.  However, if I use Open in Excel, that column is empty in Excel.  All other columns in the filter populate correctly in Excel, but not Size.

Any thoughts on what is causing this and how to get Size to populate correctly when using Open in Excel?

After further research, I found another oddity related to this - in Excel, using the Get Jira Data panel to edit the query, I found another "Size" column - "Size(customfield_11785)" that I can add to the filter in Excel, refresh the data, and the column is populated correctly. However, back in Jira Filters, that specific field is not available to add to a filter.

To summarize - "Size (checkboxes)" is available in Jira Filters, but does not populate in Excel using "Open in Excel".  "Size (customfield_11785)" can be added to the filter while in Excel, and will populate correctly when refreshing the data, but is not available to be selected in Jira Filters.
