Filter Component/s dropdown

On many of our screens, we have the Component/s dropdown where you can select one or more Components.  Our list now has over 100 components (many of them no longer used but still tied to older jiras).  Is there a way I can filter that dropdown to only show certain components?

Component fields in JIRA are expected to show all the possible values for components in that project.   If you have entries here that are not used, you can delete these component options from the project administration page.   That is the only way I am aware of to limit the results on that drop-down box.
