Is there any way to include comments onto the email results of any filter subscription?

Hi Paul,

Natively Jira doesn't have the ability to include comments in filter subscriptions. 

You might look into a plugin out there that can extend Jira's email functionality such as:

Enterprise Email Handler for Jira (JEMH)
