Formatting in Fiter Description

I would like to set up filters/subscriptions looking for anomalies and instructing recipients on how to address them.  When editing permissions for a filter, you have a description field.  This description is included in subscription emails.  This looks like the best (and only) place to explain why issues were selected and how to fix them.

Unfortunately, Jira Software 8.5.1 seems to be ignoring any attempt at formatting that field.  HTML or Wiki tags are not rendered, and blank lines are eliminated.  The net result is everything you write there is one paragraph.

Is any formatting possible?
