Hi, we are using Jira 8.2.3 with the Batching Email Notification feature. Some of our Jira users set the Email Type to text. When they recive emails, umlauts are broken. But only in the email text where the title of the ticket is written. The subject of the mail is correct and umlauts in the overview of the updates are correct as well (see screenshot).

Sorry to hear about this problem. I tested out this scenario extensively on my own Jira 8.2.3. I found that I too could reproduce this problem. I have not found any other existing documented bug about this. As such I have created a new bug for this in JRASERVER-69633
I found that I could only get this problem to happen if I had my personal notification preference set to Text (instead of HTML) and if I enabled the recent batch notifications feature. Changing either value I was not able to recreate this problem. That said I would recommend watching that issue for updates.
