We’re planning to set up the GitLab for Jira Cloud app to integrate Jira Cloud with GitLab. I’m the Jira System Admin, but I don’t have a GitLab account myself.
Here’s the situation:
I understand that we need a GitLab user account (with Maintainer or Owner access) to authorize the app during the initial setup.
I’d prefer not to give anyone permanent Jira System Admin access, but I can temporarily elevate a GitLab admin’s Jira permissions to do the setup.
My question: Once the app is installed and connected, does the integration rely on the specific GitLab user who set it up? For example:
If that GitLab user’s account is deactivated or their permissions change later, will the integration break?
Or is it a “one-time” setup where, after the app is authorized, it runs independently of that user?
We want to make sure we’re not risking an unexpected break in the link down the road. Also, would it be best practice to create a service account in GitLab for this setup to ensure long-term stability?
Appreciate any insights or experiences you’ve had with this integration—thanks so much!
Hi @Sara Beyer
We discussed this quite extensively on slack. Are there parts still unclear?
Kind regards,
Dick
