Gmail for business will not wot work confluence local install

I have confluence installed on a local server that reaches the outside world via a reverse proxy. The Base URL is set right too btw. I am trying to get email to work right and it will not. My account details are correct. I did copy and paste to ensure it is. 

Settings are 

smtp.gmail.com

587

and checked use TLS

What am I doing wrong? I know it says to allow less secure apps on gmail but when I try to do that it says my domain admin has to. I try that and it doesn't let me select anything other than cloud hosted options. I am not too sure what else to do.
