Graphically define "Child of (BP)" and "Parent of (BP)"

NSEU DevOps October 12, 2022

Hello,

We have a query regarding the Issue Link Types "Child of (BP)" and "Parent of (BP)".

We use a specific issue type (Called "Phase") and another issue type ("Customer Milestone") that we wish to link with BP. However, Although we can do this through "Child of (BP)" and "Parent of (BP)" issue links within the tickets themselves, we wish to drag these items under each other, as there are a lot of these items.

I am curious as if we are allowed to do this as they are both effectively the same level in the JIRA environment (Unlike using an Epic and a Task).

Is there any way to quickly add "Child of (BP)" to tasks in the graphical view by drag drop, or do we have to go into each issue individually and manually apply this rule.

Thanks

Issue links do not natively define a hierarchy, so even if you had a graphical view, there would be no "under", just a link between the two issues.

There are a load of apps for visualising and working with links though - https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=hierarchy and https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?product=jira&query=link are worth a skim, and I'd also look at the Agile extensions Bigpicture (which does its work via links if I remember correctly), EasyAgile and possibly Structure.
