Help with getExtendedPreferences

Hi,

 

I'm try to fetch user preferences by using:  UserPreferencesManager.

But having issue with 

getExtendedPreferences(ApplicationUser userName) or getExtendedPreferences.
I'd be happy if someone could share a quick start or code sample.
