We do allow external access to some of our jira projects.

As we do not want these external users to view some of our issue fields, we decided to hide them from the default issue view screen and only make them visible via filter searches and displaying the columns.

Problem is: externals can go the same way as they are also allowed to use the advanced search and display columns as they want.

Question: is there a way to hide the search menu for a custom usergroup?

Best, Marco

Hello @Marco

Thanks for reaching out.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to hide specific fields on the issue navigator search. We have some feature requests to consider implementing this feature in the future:

Hide custom field from user to search in Issue Navigator

Allow fields to be hidden when certain groups or users views a ticket

Configurable Custom Fields

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

As a workaround, a possible way to hide your fields from a specific user would be to add them listed as a restricted comment in the issue. These would be the steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > System > General configuration
  2. Confirm the option "Comment visibility" is set to "Groups & Project Roles". Otherwise, edit this setting with that option
  3. Now you should be able to add restricted comments with the fields you need, by selecting a group that is not added to the external users in the "lock" Icon of the comment:
