How are Apps updated in Atlassian cloud?

I know an advantage to migrating to Atlassian cloud is the fact we won't need to do updates to Jira / Confluence / Bitbucket etc...

How are the individual Apps updated once we get there?  Same as with server where I need to go in and manually update them all the time or are they  automatically updated for me as with the Atlassian products?

All apps are updated in the same way. You don't have to worry about updating them.
