How can I bulk edit issue properties in the timeline view?

Elliot Manuel March 24, 2024

I don't understand how to edit the "List" view in bulk to adjust the same properties across multiple issues.

Hi @Elliot Manuel

if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. In a sense, it has a few things in common with JWM's list view, however JXL comes with a range of advanced features, and also works in (and across!) projects of any type, not just JWM projects.

Plus, it allows bulk editing via copy/paste, like so:

bulk-edit-assignee.gif

This works within and across all editable columns of your sheet, and also between JXL and pretty much any other app (including Excel or Google Sheets), for as many fields and issues as you want per action.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

Hannes,

Your recommendation is fantastic! Thank you. I have one small question. Can you help me understand why I can't edit the items in the column for "Original Estimate" and "Time Spent."

Also, I know this is probably a stupid question. I can't seem to find the button to make my Completed issues appear.

Hi @Elliot Manuel

I'm glad to hear you like JXL!

Regarding the estimates, it looks like you added the Σ (Sum) Original estimate and Σ (Sum) Time spent fields to your sheet. These fields are calculated by Jira and read-only. You probably want to add Original estimate and Time spent, without the Σ, to your sheet; these will be editable.

Regarding completed issues: The issues that you see in your JXL sheet are determined by the sheet scope, i.e., the sheet's JQL statement or filter. To edit the sheet scope, hit the Edit button in the top-right corner of the sheet screen.

Hope this helps! Any further questions please just let me know, or reach out to https://support.jxl.app.

Best,

Hannes

Hi @Elliot Manuel

I don't believe you can do this right now - there is a feature request though, check out JWMCLOUD-555

You can make bulk changes from the "Issues" tab though...

  1. Change the search as required
  2. Select the breadcrumbs (...) in the top-right
  3. Select Bulk change all N issue(s) from the drop-down
  4. Follow the instructions to bulk modify multiple issues
