How can I create a new Scrum Board, if my project does not have a Board or Backlog?

Lucas Neitzel March 31, 2020

Hello everyone, I created a new projekt (classic software projekt with Scrum template).

The Board and Backlog was auto created but I changed the name (and key) of the project later on and somehow the backlog and the board is gone. When I try to create a new board it won´t let me select the project to attach it (see screenshot).

Next thing I tried was to execute the 3 steps mentioned in another jira forum answer:

  1. click magnifying glass
  2. select View all boards
  3. top right you will see "Create board"

The button to set the new location is greyed out and it threw an error.

Copying and/ord moving it to another exiting project is working, so I assume something is wrong with the project (not the board)

I only see other existing projects. So right now I have no chance to add a new Board (and Backlog) to the project.

For info: I have full permissions (jira admin rights)

Any ideas what I can try?

Hi @Lucas Neitzel

Something simple you can check first - is that the right Project Name / Project Key?

The second screenshot mentions that the project is invalid - suggesting the project doesn't exist. You need to use the newest key / name when creating the board.

Can you view the old board at all? Or has it been completely removed?

Hi Stephen, thanks for your answer. You were right, something got messed up with the Project Key, as I changed the original key.

After checking the latest key and logging in again it worked. So this is solved.

Thanks for the help.
