How can I deny users to change the version of an issue with the permission to change its status?

I got several users creating tasks and also several users solving tasks in the sprints. So they have to be able to change the status of the taks (in progress, done).
BUT: they shouldn't be able to apply tasks to or remove from versions. This process should just be done by the Admin/PM.

I can remove this acces with removing the permission: Transition Issues (Ability to transition issues.) But this removes at the same time the permission to change the status of an issue.

I found this: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/how-do-jira-permissions-work/
there it describes in the last table the "Backlog — Versions" detailed functionallity for controlling version access. This is what I need but I sadly cannot see these functions in my permission controll.
Is there a way to add them?

I am using Jira Cloud as an Admin.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help :)

Hello @Hannah

Welcome to the community.

The permission referenced in that "Backlog - Versions" table is indicating that it is the Edit Issues permission that gives a user access to add or remove issues from a version. Generally, a user either has permission to edit everything or nothing when it comes to fields in the issues.

The only way to restrict editing access for specific fields for groups of users is to make Editing a workflow transition and disabling the general Edit issue feature. By making Edit a workflow transition you can attach custom screens to the "Edit" Transitions where the screens do or do not include the fields, and then set conditions on the transitions to determine who can see a given Edit transition and thereby control the Edit screen the user sees.

That is a very short explanation for a moderately complex task. I know it has been discussed a few times in this forum but I don't have links to those discussions at my fingertips. If you really want to pursue this solution, search this forum to see if you can find the posts and/or comment to let us know you want more information.

Hi Trudy,

thanks for welcomming me and thanks a lot for your input.

Sry for the delayed answer it took me some time to dive into the problem again....

It helped me to find some further infos like: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Answers-Developer-Questions/Is-it-possible-to-hide-the-Versions-Panel-from-a-Scrum-board/qaq-p/510675
Sadly I couldn't find a way to disable the "versions panel" the backlog view for a specific user group without using code.

If you or any other is stumbeling across a more detailed explanation of how to solve that I would be happy, but till that I will just take extra care no one is moving the versions around...

Thanks a lot!  :)
