How can I edit a custom field created by an automation?

I have an automation to add collaborators when selecting a specific component.

Some of our users would like to add more collaborators manually (depending on the ticket the additional people changes), but when they do so and the ticket is updated, the last added collaborators do not appear, it seems the automation is not allowing to add people who are not part of the configuration.

Is there a way to get this to work as I expect?

for better understanding and analysing: Could you please provide 

  • screenshot of your automation rule
  • Information regarding type of the field "collaborators"
