How can I exclude a Group from a Project?

Anthony Marshall July 29, 2021

I created a group and added users to that group.  I only want that group to view 1 project.  Currently we have lots of other users who are not part of groups and lots of other projects created.  So I'm trying to find away to either only allow 1 group to view 1 project or to exclude that 1 group from all the other projects.  Is this possible?

how you do this depends on the type of project...

TMP - set the project to private and only invite the desired users

CMP - ensure that your permission scheme only includes the desired group for Browse. do not include that group in other projects

I created a Permission scheme for the single project and it only shows up for that group, but that group can also see all the other projects that are created.  I could then go into all the other projects and change the Browse permission but I would have to create a group and put all the other users into that group.  The might be an issue since there lots more users vs the amount of users is that single group I'm trying to exclude.  Also any new users that are created in the future will also have to be add to the group that is allowed to access all other projects.  I hope this makes sense.

Jira.pngThis is essentially what I'm trying to achieve.

  • Group 1 can view Project 5
  • Group 1 cannot view Project 1, 2, 3, 4, 6
  • All Users not in Group 1 can view Projects 1, 2, 3, 4 ,5 6

so you can't exclude groups w/in permissions unfortunately. the only thing you can do is control which groups get access to which projects by applying a permission scheme. you can also control what group new users go into by default which helps control access.

FWIW here is some documentation on permissions - how-do-jira-permissions-work
